How much does it cost to have a book formatted?
At Clean Page Press, an ebook and paperback for KDP cost $249 for up to 80,000 words, in 10 business days. Ebook only is $99 and paperback only is $169.
Each started 10,000 words over 80,000 adds $25. Image-heavy books get a quote from a person.
Studios we checked on 2026-10-11 post prices from $30 to $1,999. Fiverr basic tiers run $10 to $185, with a median of $25 across 35 listings.
How do I know you're any good?
Ask for the free sample: we format up to 1,300 words of your own manuscript at your trim size and send it back in 2 business days, before you pay anything.
You can also check a sample we published. Our sample chapter went from a Letter-size Word file in Times New Roman 12, double spaced, to a 6 x 9 in paperback of 14 pages with every font embedded, and we publish the measurements: a 0.437 in top margin and a 0.417 in foot on folios 6 and 7.
Then there is the guarantee. If KDP rejects files we made for a formatting reason, we fix them free until it accepts them, as long as you tell us within 60 days of delivery.
And you see every step. Each delivery comes with the Kindle Previewer and print-spec screenshots we checked, so you judge the files before you upload them.

Can I get my money back?
Yes. Cancel before work starts and the full amount goes back to the card you paid with, with no fee taken off. 50% after work starts and before the first draft is delivered. None after the first draft, because the guarantee fixes the files free until KDP accepts them.
Do you need my KDP login, and do I keep the rights and files?
No. You send us the file; we never log in to your KDP account. You upload the finished files to your own KDP account with our step-by-step guide, and there is no screen share.
You keep 100% of the rights, 100% of the royalties and every file we make.

Can you edit my book before you format it?
Yes, and we edit before formatting so the pages are set once.
A proofread is $16 per 1,000 words, and a copyedit is $24, which includes the proofread. A manuscript assessment, a written report with no edits in the text, is $12 per 1,000 words ($199 minimum). A line edit is $30 ($149 minimum) and a developmental edit is $35 ($299 minimum). They take 7, 10 and 15 business days for a book up to 80,000 words, and the book editing page shows the extra days for longer books.

How long does formatting take, and are revisions included?
Starter takes 10 business days from your final manuscript, Standard 13 and Launch 18. Ebook only takes 7 and paperback only 6.
Starter includes 1 revision round. Standard and Launch include 2. An extra round is $35. Books over 80,000 words add 1 business day per started 20,000 words. Rush delivery is not offered.
Why is KDP rejecting my manuscript, and can you fix it?
The usual causes are content in the margins or gutter, fonts that aren't embedded, bleed images that stop short of the trim line, too many blank pages, leftover template text, and a file that doesn't match the trim size you entered.
Yes, we can fix it. Send us the rejection email and your file and we tell you free, by email within 1 business day from when we have your file, what failed. We then rebuild it at our posted prices: $169 for a paperback interior, $99 for an ebook, $249 for both. If KDP rejects files we made for a formatting reason, we fix them free until they're accepted.
Is there free book formatting software, and why pay someone?
Yes, Kindle Create and Reedsy Studio are free. Atticus and Vellum are paid tools; Vellum costs $199.99 to $249.99 once.
If you have the time, they work. What you pay us for is the checks and the risk: we run the ebook through Kindle Previewer, check the PDF against KDP's print specs, send you the screenshots, and fix the files free until KDP accepts them.
How much do people charge to format a book: per page or per word?
Some formatters charge per page and some per word. Clean Page Press charges one price per book up to 80,000 words, then $25 per started 10,000 words.
We don't price per page because the page count isn't known until the book is set. In our sample book a double-spaced Word page held 406 words, and the same text at 6 x 9 in held over 430 on its fullest page.
What format is best for Amazon KDP?
For an ebook, an EPUB. For a paperback or hardcover, a print PDF at your trim size with every font embedded.
Starter gives you both: the EPUB with a linked table of contents and the print PDF.
Can I use the same file for my ebook and my paperback?
No, the ebook and the paperback need two different files. The ebook reflows to fit each screen, and the paperback has fixed pages at your trim size.
Both are in the $249 Starter package.
Can KDP do hardcover, and what changes from paperback?
Yes, KDP prints hardcovers as a separate format, with their own interior PDF and cover file.
We make the hardcover interior from your paperback file for $59 in 3 business days, with the trim and gutter reset for KDP's hardcover rules. It comes with a paperback order.

What size is a KDP paperback cover?
It depends on your trim size, your page count and your paper. A full wrap is the back, the spine and the front in one file, with bleed on every edge.
Spine width is the page count times the thickness of one page. On cream paper that is 0.0025 in a page, so a 384-page book has a 0.96 in spine. We size the wrap after the interior is final.

Yes. KDP listing prep is $99 in 2 business days: we write your book description, 7 keywords and 3 categories, and fill in the title and subtitle fields, all as text ready to paste into KDP.
