What causes a KDP rejected file?
A rejection usually traces back to one of six causes, all of them visible in the file itself. Text sitting in the margin or gutter and fonts left unembedded are the first two on the list below. Fix the cause before you upload again, because KDP will reject the same file a second time.
- Text or images inside KDP's margin or gutter.
- Fonts that are not embedded in the PDF.
- Bleed images that stop short of the trim line.
- Too many blank pages.
- Leftover template text.
- A file that doesn't match the trim size or details you entered in KDP.
The gutter catches people most often, because it grows with your page count. KDP's inside margin is 0.375 in for 24 to 150 pages, 0.5 in for 151 to 300, 0.625 in for 301 to 500, 0.75 in for 501 to 700 and 0.875 in for 701 to 828.
What does the free diagnosis cover?
The free diagnosis tells you what failed in your file and why. We read KDP's rejection email, open your file and reply by email within 1 business day. Some rejections aren't formatting at all, and the diagnosis says so. If one margin is all that needs moving, it says that too.

Why do you rebuild the file instead of patching it?

What isn't covered?
Rejections that aren't about formatting aren't covered, and the diagnosis tells you when that is the case. Content policy reviews, metadata problems, covers we didn't make and text changes after you approve the files sit outside the guarantee. Account and identity blocks are KDP's to answer, not ours.
