Short answer. You create a KDP series page from your Bookshelf: click + Create new title or series and choose Create series page, or click the three dots next to a book and choose Add to series. Any format can start one. KDP says the page appears within 72 hours once a book in it is live.
Key points
- A series can start with an ebook, a paperback or a hardcover.
- Public domain and low-content books, such as notebooks and journals, cannot be in a series.
- Link your formats first. Adding one linked format adds the other.
- You set the order of main content. Related content shows in the order you added it.
- Edits to the series page can take up to 72 hours to show on Amazon.
How do I create a KDP series page?
KDP's Start a Book Series page gives two ways in, both from your Bookshelf.
- Click + Create new title or series, then Create series page.
- Or click the three dots next to a book you already have, then Add to series.
You do not need every book finished. KDP says you can add or remove books later.
The series title follows the same rules as a book title, per KDP's metadata guidelines. That is the same field work our KDP listing prep does for your title and subtitle. If you are still choosing those words, our post on writing your Amazon book title and subtitle covers what KDP allows.
How do I add an existing book to my series?
Open the series from any book already in it. KDP's Edit your Series page lists the steps:
- Go to your Bookshelf.
- Find a book in the series and click Manage title.
- Click Manage Series.
- Click +Add existing title.
- Follow the steps to pick the book.
The same Manage Series page has + Create new Title for a book you have not set up yet.
If the book has an ebook and a paperback, link them on your Bookshelf before you add either. KDP's Start a Book Series page says adding one linked format adds the other automatically. Skip that and you add each edition by hand.
What is the difference between main content and related content?
Main content is the numbered run of the series. Related content is the extra material, such as a Kindle boxset.
KDP's reading order page says you can edit the order of main content. Related content shows on the series page in the order it was added, and you cannot reorder it there.
So add related items in the order you want readers to see them. To move a book between the two groups, open Manage Series, click Series Actions next to the book, and choose Edit Series relationship.
Does my series need a reading order?
Only if the books tell one story. KDP's reading order page splits series into two kinds:
- Ordered: one storyline across several books, read in sequence. KDP's example is Harry Potter.
- Unordered: books that share something but can be read in any order. KDP's example is Sherlock Holmes.
Unrelated books by the same author are not a series at all, KDP says.
To set the order, go to Manage Series, click Edit book order, change each number, click Update, then Save and publish order.
The fix we do for this: KDP listing prep writes your title and subtitle fields, the description, 7 keywords and 3 categories as one document, each part labelled with its KDP field, for $99 in 2 business days. You upload; we never log in. Send us your book's details.
How long until the series page shows on Amazon?
KDP's Start a Book Series page says the series page appears within 72 hours if the series already has live titles. If none of the main content is live yet, it appears within 72 hours after those books go live.
Later edits follow the same clock. KDP's Edit your Series page says updates can take up to 72 hours to show.
To find the page, open one of your books on Amazon. KDP's series page help says to click the link next to "Book X of Y" below the star rating.
What can stop a book showing on the series page?
A few things, all from KDP's own pages:
- The book is public domain or low content.
- The series has more than one author. KDP's Bookshelf cannot create or edit these, so you contact KDP.
- You want a paperback boxset. KDP does not offer a bundled paperback set.
- You publish to Amazon.co.jp, where series with paperback or hardcover books are not available.
A pre-order does not stop it. KDP says pre-order titles still appear on the series page and readers can pre-order them one at a time. Our post on how KDP pre-orders work covers the dates.
Can readers buy the whole series in one click?
Only in narrow cases. When we read KDP's series page help on 14 October 2026, the exclusion list was longer than the rule itself.
Series 1-click ordering is for Kindle ebooks only. KDP turns it off when a series has more than 25 titles, fewer than two live titles, pre-order titles, several editions of one book, or any paperback or hardcover title.
That last one caught us. Add your paperbacks to the series and you lose the one-click button for the ebooks. Our judgement: keep the paperbacks in. Most readers come to a series page to find book two, not to buy all of them at once.
